Hello Louisa - I started taking Creatine but it seems to affect my sleep. I was taking it in the morning after breakfast, so a long time before bed (which is 8:45 - 9pm) any suggestions? Thanks Kindly
I’ve been taking 5 mg for some time . I work out too , I’m 64 this year .
Did a blood test this week and got a reply from my doctor that I have a minor decrease in kidney function? Of course the article says that it doesn’t do any damage. I’ll repeat the blood test in 2 months to see if it was a one off . I’m in good health otherwise and have no need for medication
Glad you enjoyed the creatine post! It's always good to dive into those myths and see what's really up. Hearing about your experience and the slight dip in kidney function definitely throws in a bit of a twist, especially when you've been keeping up with your workouts and hitting 64 strong. It's smart you're planning to recheck in a couple of months – sometimes these things can be a bit of a fluke or influenced by other factors.
Staying in good health without needing any meds at your age is seriously impressive. Keep doing what you're doing, and hopefully, that next test gives you some clear skies. Always worth keeping an eye on things, but it sounds like you're on top of it!
After listening to your podcast I decided to try 5mg of creatine. I am being treated for high blood pressure. I did my normal workout and took 5 mg of creatine and 4 hours latter my blood pressure was 176. I tried the same routine 2 days latter and had the same results. I talked to my doctor about it and his response surprised me. He informed me some folks can not take creatine but encouraged me to take 1 MG for a week and increase the intake up to 5 MG. It may take 6 to 8 weeks but I might be able to work up to the 5mg. Of course my blood pressure needs to be monitored through the entire process. Creatine has increased my blood pressure by about 5 points but I am increasing as prescribed. It is still unknown if I can reach 5mg. Thought my journey may help some of your followers.
Thank you for sharing your experience with trying out creatine, especially in the context of managing high blood pressure. Your journey underscores the crucial importance of individual responses to supplements and the need for close medical supervision when introducing any new element into your health regimen. It's valuable to hear that your doctor provided a tailored approach, suggesting a gradual increase in creatine dosage while closely monitoring your blood pressure. This kind of personalized strategy, though it requires patience and vigilance, can indeed help in safely assessing tolerance levels and potential benefits of supplements like creatine. Your story is a powerful reminder for our community to always consult healthcare professionals before making changes to their health routines, especially when dealing with pre-existing conditions.
I’m 59 years old, female and avid cyclist for 20+ years. I have been taking 5mg/ daily of creatine for 18 months or more. I noticed improvement in my muscular strength and recovery after 4 weeks taking creatine. Never had any water retention problems at all. I had my blood tested last year and all is good. Plan to have blood tested again next week. I don’t have any intention to stop.

Try taking it before your workout!
How long can I use it for ? Creatine
You can keep using it ongoing.
I enjoyed reading the post about creatine
And the myth that it doesn’t harm the kidneys.

Ok thank you
Hi Louisa - thanks I will. I assume the training (cycling in my case) will dampen the effects on nighttime sleep?
If it's close to bed time then yes.
