Hyaluronic acid is present in all connective tissues and organs in the body, with the skin having the largest quantity. However, the amount of hyaluronic acid declines as we age, leading to decreased skin health and appearance. In a recent randomized controlled study, hyaluronic acid skin serums were no better than a placebo.

Neuro Athletes,
Did you know that our skin is the largest organ in the body? Despite its importance, many of us struggle with keeping it young, healthy, and firm.
I recently spoke with Dr Brad Stanfield on The Neuro Experience podcast who spoke about various ways to optimise your life for longevity but one of his topics really stood out to me- how to reverse skin ageing.
Have you ever wondered why some people look 5 years younger than their age and others look some 10 years older than what they are?
Why is that?
The answer lies in the natural aging process, but don't worry, there are solutions that can help reverse skin aging.
As we age, our skin loses elasticity and firmness, leading to the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Recent research suggests that hyaluronic acid, a compound found naturally in the body, may be an effective way to reverse skin aging.
In the podcast Brad mentioned hyaluronic acid which is a substance I have been using on my face as a serum but little did I know that there is a more effective way of getting hyaluronic acid into the body.
This is what you need to know…
Hyaluronic acid is present in all connective tissues and organs in the body, with the skin having the largest quantity. However, the amount of hyaluronic acid declines as we age, leading to decreased skin health and appearance.
How does it work?
Hyaluronic acid works by improving the nutrition and health of the deeper layers of the skin. This leads to improved skin health and appearance, including reduced wrinkles and fine lines.
According to a one-year study, hyaluronic acid supplements are generally well-tolerated, with possible side effects being gastro discomfort and reflux. However, there has been concern about whether hyaluronic acid supplements increase the risk of developing cancer.
Recent studies have shown that hyaluronic acid supplements can improve skin health and reduce wrinkles. Five double-blind randomized placebo-controlled studies have shown that hyaluronic acid supplements are absorbed and result in a quick and significant improvement in typical signs of skin aging.
In a recent randomized controlled study, hyaluronic acid skin serums were no better than a placebo. This study was also industry-sponsored, which raises questions about the effectiveness of hyaluronic acid skin serums.
Hyaluronic acid supplements generally come in high molecular weight or low molecular weight. The limited human clinical research suggests that high molecular weight hyaluronic acid is protective against cancer and may be the best form to take as an oral supplement.
While there is evidence to suggest that hyaluronic acid supplements can reverse skin aging, it is important to note that these studies have been sponsored by supplement companies.
If you're looking to improve your skin health and appearance, hyaluronic acid supplements may be a safe and effective option to consider. As always, consult with your healthcare provider before taking any new supplements.
He also mentioned two other unique strategies/ compounds to be using for healthy ageing skin however I’ll let you listen to it for yourself.
